The second International Elche–Alicante Marathon, which was due to take place on 29 November 2026, has been postponed. The reason is that Spain’s snap general election will be held on the same day.
The municipalities of Elche and Alicante, together with Club Atlético Montemar, which is responsible for organising the race, are already working to find a new date. It will be announced once confirmed.
The marathon was one of the main sporting events featured in the Alicante and province events calendar for autumn 2026. Visitors and participants who had planned a trip to Alicante specifically for the race on 29 November are therefore advised to follow updates from the organisers before changing accommodation or transport bookings.

New route for the Elche–Alicante Marathon
The postponement does not mean the race has been cancelled. For the second edition, the organisers have prepared an updated route designed to make the course faster and more comfortable for runners.
The start is still planned near Palacio de Altamira in Elche, on Calle Albéniz. The first approximately 20 km will run through the urban area of Elche, with one of the main new features being a section through the famous Palmeral de Elche.
Runners will then face around 18 km of an almost completely flat intercity section, with a slight downhill gradient towards Alicante. This part of the route will take them to Casa Mediterráneo.
The final four kilometres will pass through some of Alicante’s most scenic areas – Explanada de España, Plaza del Mar, Avenida Juan Bautista Lafora, the former El Cocó beach area and Paseo de Gómiz next to Postiguet Beach. The finish line is planned in the port area.
The organisers have also removed the final eight kilometres through Alicante city that formed part of the route of the first marathon. This eliminates several sections with elevation changes and should make the closing part of the course faster.
The first marathon attracted 3,500 participants
The first International Elche–Alicante Marathon took place on 30 November 2025. Around 3,500 athletes competed over the classic 42.195 km distance. The route connected Palacio de Altamira in Elche with the Port of Alicante and attracted large numbers of spectators.
Those planning to travel for the new marathon date and stay in Alicante can book accommodation in advance at Alicante Smart Hotel. The hotel is located in the city and is a convenient option both for race participants and for friends or family travelling with them.
The new date for the International Elche–Alicante Marathon will be announced once it has been agreed by the municipalities and the race organisers.
