Performing arts, music, contemporary dance, puppet shows and audiovisual screenings form the core of the programme, which will take place at 16 venues with the support of Aguas de Alicante, the University of Alicante (UA) and the provincial authorities. The Cultura en Barrios programme includes 70 events from October to December, bringing its 10th anniversary year to a close with 145 events distributed throughout the city.

Most of them will take place in community social centres, municipal libraries (the “Anem a la biblio” section), the Pedro Romero Municipal Arts Centre, the Casa de la Música at the Las Cigarreras Cultural Centre, the Museo de Aguas and Plaza de Argel. In addition, the “Culture in the Neighbourhoods” programme, aimed at decentralising cultural activities and facilitating access from anywhere in the city, will feature the Alicante Municipal Symphony Orchestra with three morning performances, including a special concert dedicated to Óscar Esplá on the 50th anniversary of his death.
In total, around 120 professionals and amateurs will participate in the programme. Admission to the events will be by tickets/invitations, which can be booked online at alicantesociocultura.eventbrite.es. Invitations will be available approximately two weeks before each event.

Aula Abierta educational programme
Meanwhile, the 40th edition of the Aula Abierta educational programme includes courses and workshops, talks, lectures, concerts, theatre performances, poetry readings and exhibitions dedicated to art, history, cultural heritage, literature, music, creativity, health and nutrition, as well as museum visits and city tours, with a total of 2,200 places available.
The “Open Classroom” programme will run from October 2026 to June 2027 and will take place at four municipal cultural centres, the Municipal Arts Centre and the Playas Community Centre. An online learning format will also be available.
The courses vary in both content and duration. Subjects planned include art, history, cultural heritage, literature, music, artistic creativity, health and personal development.
Course duration and registration
The programme includes short courses lasting 10–12 hours or even less, held over 1–2 months; medium-length courses of 20–30 hours, held over 3–4 months; as well as longer courses lasting around 60 hours. The latter will begin in October this year and continue until June 2027.
Registration will take place online from 9:00 on 15 September until 10:00 on 29 September. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places, a draw will be held on 29 September at 10:30.
